Sat 08 Aug 26 - Coober Pedy to Pimba (367km)
12 Deg reaching a top of 13 Deg, with strong (45k/h plus) NE winds and rain all day. It was raining when we woke at Coober Pedy, and still raining well into the night at Pimba. We drove away at 0900 heading south with a blustery wind pushing us around a bit. The countryside was an amazing green, with many patches of various coloured wildflowers growing along the roadside, even the occasional clumps of bright red Sturt Desert Pea were seen along the way. Apart from a late morning coffee at a roadside rest area, we didn't stop until we arrived at the Lake Hart Rest Area which was our intended overnight stop. It was still early, and with rain continuing, we couldn't do much outdoors anyway, so we continued another 40km to Pimba where we decided to stay overnight at the RV Donation Camp, conveniently located at the turnoff to Woomera and Roxby Downs where we will aim for tomorrow. We are parked on a firm gravel road base, but there is a lot of water laying around and it's quite sloppy in places, so we were confined mostly to the van for the evening. Apart from the rain falling, and the occasional freight train passing nearby, it very quiet here.
