Thu 06 Aug 26 - Coober Pedy
11 to 21, Mostly clear with light winds
A very big day behind the camera wandering around Coober Pedy and out to the Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park for sunset. I spent the morning exploring Coober Pedy while Noel stayed behind to catch up on some domestic duties. I first visited the underground Saint Elijah the Prophet Serbian Orthodox Church, then the underground Catacomb Church, then on to the Old Coober Pedy Jail. I then did a self guided tour through the Old Timers Mine and Museum, and drove past the Big Winch Lookout before going through the Umoona Opal Mine and Museum on the way back to the van for lunch. We both then went to visit Fayes Underground Home, but only Noel did the guided tour (We were told by the Information Centre that it was a Pet friendly venue, but it wasn't, so Noel did the tour, took the photos and told me all about it while I stayed outside to mind Olli). Afterwards we called back at the van to grab some warm clothes, then we drove 33km out to the Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park for sunset. The drive through the Park was very well timed, as we got to tag along with a guided tour which was quite informative. We stayed around at the main lookout for sunset, then returned to the caravan, calling into the local Italian/Pizza Restaurant in town for takeaway dinner - Lasagne for Noel and Smoked Kangaroo Pizza for me. It's been a long day, with lots of photos, hence very little explanation about some of the places we visited today - Google will be your friend if you want to find out more.
We were planning to leave tomorrow, but feeling a bit weary and with a few more things to see and do, we decided late in the day to stay one more night.
Sorry (Not really) lots of photos.
