Day 71: Sat 01 Aug 26 - Yulara to Kings Canyon
Sat 01 Aug 26 - Yulara to Kings Canyon (304km)
3 feeling like 0 Deg at Yulara reaching a very nice 23 Deg at Kings Canyon, clear and light wind
We were up and at em earlier today, driving away from Yulara by 08:40 heading to Kings Canyon for the next 3 nights. Driving back along the same road that we drove in on for almost 150km was less interesting this time, and once we turned north to Kings Canyon, the road narrowed and became even less interesting. Unfortunately I scored another large stone chip in the windscreen, and if not needed before, it will definitely have to be replaced when we get back home. After a rest/coffee stop at 1100, we arrived and checked in at the caravan park, set up, and were sitting down outside in the warm sunshine having a bite to eat by 14:00. It's a very large caravan park, and we are located at the back with some wonderful views across to the western end of the George Gill Range. Located only 10km away from the Kings Canyon walking tracks, I drove in to check out the starting point for the Rim Walk which I plan do in early in the morning. While there, I couldn't help myself, and did the 2.6km return Kings Creek Walk, an easy walk along the valley floor, surrounded by towering red sandstone walls with abundant birdlife along the way. Back at the caravan by 16:30, we sat outside enjoying the last of the warm sunshine and wonderful views, feeling a bit tired.
