Day 66: Mon 27 Jul 26 - Curtain Springs to Yulara - Ayers Rock Campground
Mon 27 Jul 26 - Curtain Springs to Yulara (Ayers Rock Campground) (86km)
Another cold night and even colder start to the day. -1 feeling like -5.7, reaching 18 Deg, clear with light winds (back into shorts this afternoon)
After we thawed out this morning, we started the short 86 km drive to Yulara for our stay at the Ayers Rock Campground. Arriving a little early for our 11:00 checkin, we had no problem getting early access to our site. A large gravel site, with a small concrete slab, it's much better than expected. We were having horrible thoughts about being on an all red dirt only site with Olli. A cuppa in the warm sunshine after setting up, then we walked over to the information centre to make enquiries about pet sitters and booked an activity for Wednesday. Armed with a list of local workers who provide pet sitting as a side hustle, we arranged a young lady over the phone to care for Olli on Wed for a few hours, and again on Thu for five hours so we can go into the National Park for walks and a closer sunset viewing. Afterwards, back at the van, we put together a bit of a rough plan to fill our time here, then we walked up to a nearby lookout at Yulara (Imalung Lookout) for sunset, which from such a low altitude, provides good views across to the rock. With the activities we've planned during our stay, expect to see a lot of photos of various rocks. Despite the short distance driven today, we were both feeling quite tired after dinner, but not quite as tired as Olli who walked almost everywhere with us today.
