Day 57: Sat 18 Jul 26 - Barrow Creek WW2 Site to Alice Springs

Sat 18 Jul  26 - Barrow Creek WW2 Site to Alice Springs (321km)

A minimum of 3, feeling like 0 Degrees overnight to 20 Deg, clear and strong easterly winds, easing in the afternoon.

It was a very fresh morning, and the heater got another run to take the chill out of the air. It was a very peaceful night, and we all had an excellent sleep. With sunrise at 0715, it was another slow start to the day before driving away at 0915, and heading south towards Alice Springs with a strong crosswind. After a couple of stops for coffee and and a rest on the way, we eventually arrived at our home for the next 8 nights, Discovery Parks Ross Alice Springs. By the time we arrived, we (and I suspect Olli) were happy to be out of the car. There's a lot of nothing between Mt Isa and Alice Springs. By the time we got settled, and had a brew, but it was too late to catch the information centre, so we will drive into town tomorrow to plan our stay. Driving through town to get to our caravan park (including a nice high fence covered with razor wire), we were pleasantly surprised at how big the town is, and surprisingly clean. It will be interesting to see if we still have the same impression after a few days staying here.  After dinner we walked around to the pancake and strawberries van and treated ourselves to dessert, before slipping into a food coma.

Excellent road conditions to Alice Springs, with scenery improving (less boring) from Barrow Creek

Some serious calories here - Pancake and Strawberries, and Strawberry Pavlova from the van inside the caravan park.
