Day 56: Fri 17 Jul 26 - Wonarah Bore Rest Area to Barrow Creek WW2 Site

Fri 17 Jul  26 - Wonarah Bore Rest Area to Barrow Creek WW2 Site (461km)

8 Degrees, apparent 4 with a very fresh SE wind reaching 26 Deg clear and increasing wind in the afternoon.

After a long day in the saddle, we've landed at another awesome free camp for the night with our own concrete slab large enough to fit three cars and caravans, about 900m from the highway and not a sound to be heard, apart from some birds and cattle grazing at sunset. There are only about 4 other vans here that we can see - it's very peaceful. We left our overnight stay at Wonarah Bore, and drove past the Barkly Homestead, stopping for our morning brew at 41 Mile Bore Rest Area, then continued on to Tenant Creek to refuel. We did a lap of the town, but decided there was nothing of interest for us, so we continued 98km to Devils Marbles where we wandered around for a little over an hour. Noel didn't wander too far, as dogs are allowed in the carpark only, but thankfully you can see a lot of the rock formations up close from the road driving in and the car park. They are only rocks, but I found them very interesting, and of course I took lots of photos. Shortly after 3pm, we set off for the last 95km to our overnight stay at Barrow Creek WW2 Staging Site, now a free camping area, and what a beauty it is. After parking the car and van on a large slab at the back of the camp site, we enjoyed the warm afternoon sun as the breeze dropped, (with a couple of refreshing ales) before dinner and a very early night. Tomorrow, we continue towards Alice Springs.

Arriving at Tennant Creek - Unfortunately nothing of interest for us to see here
