Day 49: Fri 10 Jul 26 - Longreach to Winton to Dinosaur Creek

Fri 10 Jul  26 - Longreach to Winton to Dinosaur Creek (247km)

11 to 29 Degrees, mostly clear and light winds

We had a nice downpour of rain overnight, but it wasn't that noticeable on the hard ground around us when we woke. After having to wait 30 minutes for old mate next door to move his rig, we hooked up and eventually drove away from Longreach at 09:30, direction Winton. We had planned to stay a night or two at Winton, but we've been there before, and I also discovered this morning that the town is hosting its annual Opal Festival today and tomorrow. Many of the stall holders, and there are lots of them, have taken up most of the camping space at the Long Waterhole free camp where we had planned to stay. When we arrived at Winton, we had a quick wander around town and decided that we would certainly continue towards Cloncurry - it was very busy for a small town. We continued about 70km NW from Winton to a free camp at Dinosaur creek just off the main road, where there is plenty of open space, even with the shared company of about 10 other vans tonight. There was some road noise from road trains until the sun set, then it was very quiet afterwards. Another day on the road, and there was an unbelievable number of caravans on the move again and few trucks, until we started travelling NW from Winton to Cloncurry where there were lots of road trains.  Sunset was another gem.
