Wed 27 May 26 - Goondiwindi to Wandoan (302km)
14 Degrees and partly cloudy at Goondiwindi with occasional light showers along the way, to 22 Degrees and cloudy with nearby passing storms at Wandoan. Given all the hype about today's weather forecast, we struck it lucky today.
State of origin tonight, and I'm also tired so I'll keep it brief. The first 15 km of road out of Goondiwindi was the roughest sealed road I've ever driven along - just horrible. We stopped at Moonie for a brew and to shake out all the rattles, then we continued north, taking a short detour 7kms south of Condamine to Caliguel Lagoon where we had lunch. I was tempted to stay the night (me moreso than Noel), but we continued north to Wandoan where we set up for the night at the Waterloo Plains Environmental Park. It's a wonderful 11 hectare wetlands park with a free camp within close walking distance to town. We had a few short walks around the wetland area then into town after setting up, followed by a nice BBQ dinner with fantastic tasting meat from a butcher in Goondiwindi, then we settled in for the evening watching the State of Origin.
