Sat 23 May 26 - Home to Molong (275km)
Cloudy and 6 Degrees in Canberra to partly cloudy and 20 Degrees in Molong.
Such a joy to be packing the van for another tour (not really - we hate the packing). It was a joy though to be finally leaving home at 1015 and heading north without any firm plans. I did my first bearing service on the caravan earlier in the week, and I was a bit concerned that I may have overtightened the bearings. I stopped and checked a few times on the way today, and all wheels were much hotter than usual at the first stop, but each stop after, they had eventually settled back to normal temperatures. Phew... We arrived in Boorowa just in time for lunch and coffee at the bakery, sitting outside on a cloudy but rather mild day for this time of year. The rest of our trip to Molong was nice and cruisy in the warm afternoon sun. Being a Saturday, there was very little traffic to contend with. The countryside is looking very green with lots of grazing stock and farmers preparing fields for their next crops. Our first night stay is at the Molong Showgrounds with power and clean modern amenities, but no water. The place is looking a bit tired since we last stayed here a few years ago, but $20 per night is still a very reasonable fee to pay. A late afternoon walk around the golf course was followed by a very quiet first night on our trip north to the escape the Canberra winter. We had planned to do Central Australia with loop back through QLD this trip, but with the current fuel situation, we decided to head directly up to Gladstone to visit family for a couple of weeks, before deciding where we go from there.
